Joe Turner has previously worked with the likes of: BB King, Albert King, Little Milton, Earl Hooker, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Elvis Presley ("Good Rockin` Tonight" Movie), Isaac Hayes, Todd Sharpville, Lonnie & Floyd, and many, many more...
Born in Jackson, Tennessee on the 4th July 1944, Joe found his independence at the age of 10 when he picked up his first instrument. Starting with the drums, and then working his way from guitar to trombone (and finally bass guitar), Joe found himself in early childhood, earning his keep in Southern juke joints, working with a variety of blues bands. Over the years, he developed a reputation for being one of the finest blues sidemen in the USA, and today features on many of those penultimate recordings that we now regard as the foundations of blues history...
As well as making his mark amongst so many blues fans over the years, Joe has also chalked up a vast number of accolades from both the music industry and various dignitaries. These include being presented the Key To The City (Memphis in 1986, & Jackson, Tennessee in 1998 - where it is "Joe Turner Day" on June 28th & June 5th respectively), "Best Bass Player" 1997 British Blues Awards (Europe`s equivalent of the WC Handy`s), and the "Talkin` Blues Award" for Best Band in 1999 (presented in Koln, Germany).
Having made Memphis his adopted home, Joe Turner is nowadays considered to be one of the few remaining exponents of the "true Memphis sound", still working the international touring circuit. His band (The Memphis Blues Caravan) exude the influences that Joe absorbed from so many of his previous employers: Little Milton (4 years), Albert King (7 years), BB King (with whom Joe played for 5 years), and many, many more. Currently residing in Europe and still releasing albums (Joe writes and produces all the Memphis Blues Caravan releases); Mr. Turner and his band to this day, chalk up well over 200 dates a year worldwide, and are still going strong...
