Website navigation tips and design philosophy

Links within articles are shown in the default way, i.e. underlined, but in other areas this behaviour is suppressed as it would just add clutter. Therefore underlines will not appear in the tabled lists of events, even though the right-most fields are all linked to pages which contain detailed information.
To go back a page, use the browser's Back button. For all other manouvers, it's advisable to start from the menu again, especially as return visits to pages within a session will be instant.
Our abiding philosophy is to maintain the web site as an easy to use, up to date and fast (therefore text-based), source of information. Apart from in the gallery area, images and other data files are offered to the visitor rather than slowly appearing unannounced on the screen. Links to images and MIDI files etc. state the files' sizes, whilst links to external sites are only included if they are both relevant and not especially slow.
It's difficult to understand why so many web site developers appear to ignore the line speeds used by the typical UK home and small business PC user. Perhaps, like the NHS, they regard the customers' time as an infinite free resource, there to be consumed at a leisurely pace. We promise to be different.
